Restoration Photos
I bought this car in 1974 as a
green Club Coupe. I drove it regularly. In 1982 the car was
involved in an accident where it was
sitting in a parking space. It was rear ended by a Jeep
that had just been hit by a pickup
truck that had run a red light. The jeep hit my Coupe at
around 40 mph. The
jeeps body came off its frame on impact with my car. The impact
pushed my car forward. I normally turned
my wheels into the curb when parking. The angled
wheels caused my car to climb
the curb. The parking meter post caved in the drivers side
front fender. The right rear bumper
was bent all out of shape. The splash pan was crushed.
The frame of the Coupe was not damaged
except the extensions that held the bumper frame.
This damage was just 1/2 inch. I parked
the car without getting a full insurance payment. I
had insured it as a normal car not an antique.
So I received just 800.00. I parked it figuring
I'd do a restoration in a few
years. Well it's a few years later now and my son who was not
even born when the accident happened
has claimed it. He started the restoration at age 14.
He took it ALL apart. Down to the frame!
We zero timed the engine with all new mechanical
and fluid systems and have had
the engine running for two years. From the work on this
car, my son just completed his
first year at Purdue as a MET student. MET is Mechanical
Engineering Technology. It is like Mechanical
Engineering but hands on with tools. He has
been using machine
tools since he was 8. Currently he CoOps at M.E. Simpson Co. in
Valparaiso.
His intention after graduation is to continue to work at M.E.Simpson
and give back to to the
community.
